For my eyes the #383838 shade works well for white, but it also passes the AAA test for #ccc. Hence the choice.

There are other options, of course, such as #373737, #363636), but #383838 hits a sweet spot:

• AAA‑safe
• not too heavy
• not too light
• harmonizes with Navigator's warm neutrals
