====== How does Navigator Display Content? ====== DokuWiki allows each namespace to have an entry point page, called start—the root page for that topic. Navigator builds on //this// idea by letting the **start page** act as a natural //entry point// for the topic’s articles. For that, Navigator uses a single, explicit instruction to generate an automatic list of pages: ~~AUTOINDEX~~ When this marker appears on a **start** page, Navigator inserts a sortable list of all articles available for that namespace. The marker may stand alone or appear after your own introduction or notes. This approach is stable across all DokuWiki installations and avoids the parsing quirks that occur when trying to detect “empty” pages. The AUTOINDEX marker behaves like other DokuWiki control instructions and can remain invisible once a small companion plugin is installed to consume it. DokuWiki’s parser intentionally prevents //control// instructions from being hidden with HTML or CSS, which is why markers such as NOTOC also require parser-level handling to stay invisible. Hence a plugin. ====== Marker Visibility ====== The marker is only visible while editing, not appearing in the published page, but that requires the **NavigatorLabels** plugin (included in the theme package). It's time to create your own Wiki, \\ thank you for visiting. \\ Tony de Araujo ----- *Top *Back to Topic *About (curated reading list) *Home
